If laser hair removal is permanent, how does it work?

These time-tested systems use laser and vacuum technology to bring hair follicles closer to the skin’s surface in order to properly target each follicle. The skin’s tissue is slightly stretched, thinned and the vessels are lightened to actively treat each follicle and destroy it. By destroying the hair follicle, laser hair removal is permanent, and you can expect smooth, hairless skin after only a few treatment sessions (more on that below).
Does this treatment work for every skin and hair type? What if I have darker hair and skin?
If you have darker hair and skin, don’t fret. Dark hair actually responds better to the lasers than lighter hair. The laser emits an attuned beam of light that directly targets the melanin in our follicles. Melanin is the black pigment that we have in our skin, hair and the irises of our eyes. It is melanin that responds to sunlight and makes us tan or burn. If you have darker hair that means it is darker than your skin tone which makes it easy for the laser to target the follicle.
If you have lighter skin, you can also undergo laser hair removal. We have special lasers that are designed for people with fairer and darker skin and hair. Laser hair removal is permanent, no matter the type of skin you have. You may not respond to one type of laser but respond to another one instead.
How long does it last?
Laser hair removal is considered a permanent treatment because it delivers long-lasting results. Depending on your skin and hair type, you may need touch-ups every six months, or you may not need any at all. The laser is designed to target each hair follicle multiple times during the treatment in order to prevent it from every producing hair again. However, there is still a slight chance that the follicle will find a way to produce hair even after treatment. In those cases, you would need a touch-up. We recommend that you do not wax or use other hair removal systems (creams, gels etc.) in the weeks leading up to your treatment because it will make the lasers less effective.
What areas of my body can I get laser hair removal on?
Laser hair removal can be done on any area of the body where there is unwanted hair: face, back, chest, arms, bikini line (full genital area can be done as well), abdomen, legs, feet, hands, toes, knuckles – basically anywhere on your body that you are overwhelmed with unbecoming hair. Laser hair removal is permanent and isn’t just reserved for women. Men can undergo laser hair removal too.
How soon will I see results?
Laser hair removal typically takes 5-7 treatments (depending on your hair colour, type and skin) for you to see a complete reduction of body hair. However, after your first session you will see a hair reduction of approximately 50%! Following your first laser treatment, you’ll need to wait about 4-8 weeks between sessions with the final session culminating in a 90-95% complete hair removal. Some people, especially those with coarse, dark hair, will see 100% of their body hair removed.
Does it hurt?
Hair is removed quickly and comfortably without the need for soothing gels or anesthetics. This means that you won’t feel pain but only a tiny pinch. In fact, some people report that they don’t feel anything at all. Depending on your skin’s sensitivity and your threshold for pain, you could only experience mild discomfort that fades fast. Additionally, each laser treatment system has its own cooling mechanisms, so you don’t have to worry about your skin suffering heat damage or feeling overheated from the laser’s concentrated light.
Is laser hair removal worth the investment and better than other hair removal systems?
Because laser hair removal is permanent it is an investment that will save you tonnes of money in the long-run since you’ll never have to shave, wax or tweeze again. After only 5-7 treatments you’ll be free of unsightly body hair and enjoy smooth, hairless skin for years and years. When you wax, the wax is applied to your skin then removed in the opposite of direction of the hair growth. The hair is pulled out at the root, but it is not destroyed. Usually after about 3-5 weeks you will need to go back for another wax because the hair has completely grown back. When you shave, you’re only cutting hair off at the surface. When it grows back it is blunt and will appear thicker than it was before. Plus, when you shave you have to be careful about nicking your skin and developing ingrown hairs. Finally, there’s electrolysis which is only effective on smaller areas of the body like the upper lip and is quite painful.
