Varicose veins (and spider veins) are caused primarily by “venous insufficiency” - when it’s difficult for blood to move from the legs back to the heart. As a result, blood tends to collect in the veins. The symptoms include some aching, throbbing, or fatigue, all depending on severity.
Based on the individual, there are a variety of reasons for varicose veins to develop – everything from natural aging, to pregnancy, to heredity, to hormone shifts, to weight gain. Also, jobs and occupations that require prolonged standing or sitting may contribute to varicose veins.
In many cases, and under the right professional supervision, laser vein treatment could be a remedy option for those suffering from leg veins. And for many, the results are noticeable.
For both men and women, visible leg veins are quite common. However, varicose veins and spider veins tend to develop more often with women than with men. Naturally, these skin conditions increase in frequency along with age. From a statistical perspective, about one-half the women population and one-quarter the men population suffer from visible leg veins. The good news is that having laser vein treatment can provide sufferers with great results, and quickly.
Capillaries are small blood vessels that connect the arteries with the veins. Broken capillaries, especially on the face, are quite often found on the cheeks and around the nose. They are very characteristic - small spidery marks (red or blue) that appear under the surface of the skin.
Broken capillaries have a variety of causes – from genetics, to skin types, to natural aging. Also a problem is collagen loss – when the collagen protein fails to keep the skin firm and elastic. This makes the capillaries more vulnerable. Here again, laser vein treatment can be a valued remedy.
In general, broken capillaries are harmless from a medical perspective, and usually without pain or discomfort. People with fair skin are more prone to this condition, but anyone can suffer. Those with skin conditions like rosacea or acne may also be disposed to broken capillaries.
For those who suffer from spider veins or broken capillaries (especially on the face or legs) it’s important to understand the source and cause of the condition. For the most part, spider veins and broken capillaries appear close to the skin’s surface – they are easily identifiable in red or blue colour and appear as “spider webs” or “tree branches”. Wherever they appear, they are unattractive, and laser treatment could be an effective option. Getting laser treatments for spider veins can provide noticeable improvement quite quickly, and with long-term results.
Spider veins develop when the capillary walls dilate. This could be caused by poor circulation, obesity, pregnancy, and even an inactive lifestyle. Broken capillaries are those tiny blood vessels that appear on the surface of the skin. These can be caused for several reasons – skin irritation, body inflammation, and sometimes over-exposure to the sun. While there is a medical link between spider veins and broken capillaries, skin care specialists will typically address the issues in a similar way. For many, laser treatments for spider veins may be the best approach.
Laser treatments have proven to be very effective in addressing facial veins, leg veins, and broken capillaries. The good news is that laser treatment requires no downtime, while offering visible results even after a few treatments. At IGBeauty Studio, laser technicians use the Lumenis® M22™ technology, and have successfully treated a wide range of skin conditions – from varicose veins, to reticular veins, to spider veins, to broken capillaries.
The laser heats up blood vessels, closes the vein wall, and thus eliminates the appearance of the vein. Laser treatments for spider veins are very precise, as they impact a selected blood vessel, without touching any surrounding skin. For the professionals, Lumenis® M22™ is the ideal for spider veins, rosacea, birthmarks, ruby points, and angiomas.
Lumenis® M22™ is Health Canada approved, and effective most skin types, including dark skin. For many clients, improvements are almost immediate, with optimum results after a few weeks.
The Nd: YAG laser is capable of producing near-infrared waves that penetrate deep into the skin. This technology makes use of a high intensity lamp, and a laser amplifier, to target specific areas of the skin. In short, the treatment heats up the deep skin tissues, and therefore impacts larger blood vessels and vascular lesions. In this way, deeper vascular lesions can be treated – like leg veins, telangiectasia, and hemangioma.
With Nd: YAG, laser energy is converted into heat that penetrates skin tissue. The laser treats both deep tissue and shallow tissue, and serves to stimulate the natural regeneration of collagen. In combination with the Lumenis® M22™ technology, Nd: YAG provides treatment versatility with a host of skin conditions. Having minimal side effects, these laser treatments for spider veins are an effective and long lasting option.
With Multiple Sequential Pulsing, the Nd: YAG laser allows the skin surface to cool off between sequences of light pulses. Simply put, high intensity light energy is delivered to the skin during pulses, and skin tissue is allowed to cool during the delays. This technology allows for treatment of all skin types (including dark skin), and provides versatility in treating various conditions.
Nd: YAG laser treatments are used to treat deep tissue and shallow tissue - the aim is to stimulate the natural regeneration of skin collagen. In a professional setting, Nd: YAG has proven effective with facial veins, leg veins, and damaged capillaries. In combination with the Lumenis® M22™ technology, technicians can successfully treat varicose veins, reticular veins, and spider veins.
Lumenis® M22™ and Nd: YAG work together to make veins “disappear”. The laser technology is very precise, impacting only selected blood vessels, and without affecting the surrounding skin. Skilled technicians treat spider veins, rosacea, birthmarks, ruby points, and angiomas. Approved by Health Canada, Lumenis® M22™ can be used on most skin types, including darker skin types.
Laser vein treatment is a non-invasive procedure for leg veins, facial veins, and broken capillaries. The treatment protocol is tailored for each client, addressing every condition from thick varicose veins to fine capillaries. Laser vein treatment requires no downtime, and after a few treatments, the results are evident.
The team at IGBeauty uses the Lumenis® M22™ technology, a multi-application approach for treating some 30 skin conditions. We effectively treat varicose veins, spider veins, reticular veins, and broken capillaries. Lumenis® M22™ is unique in that is uses light energy to target a vascular condition, causing it to merely fade away.
Without getting overly technical, Lumenis® M22™ heats blood vessels, closing the walls of a vein, and eventually making the vein disappear. This “laser” technology is very precise and impacts only a selected blood vessel (not the surrounding skin). With additional built-in technology, any chance of skin damage is reduced, and the results are excellent with a wide range of conditions.

Lumenis® M22™ is Health Canada approved, and has proven effective with all skin types, including dark skin. In many cases, the improvement is almost immediate after treatment, and full clearance of veins is apparent after several weeks.
The ideal course of treatment would be 2-3 clinic sessions with 6-8 week intervals between. Treatments take between 10 and 20 minutes, all depending on the number of blood vessels that are being treated. There is mild stinging in treatment.
After treatment, clients should avoid taking hot baths and avoid excessive physical exercise for a couple weeks. Otherwise, all normal activities and routines can commence immediately after each treatment. Lumenis® M22™ is safe and effective.

learn moreIn short, a medical cure for spider veins has not been found yet. As well, treatments do not prevent new spider veins from developing. However, removing existing veins can dramatically improve the appearance of an affected area - it’s a short-term remedy for youthful, healthy look to the skin, and colour pattern that is more uniform. Spider veins are recurrent, so future treatments are definitely necessary.
Laser treatment for spider veins does not provide immediate results. Following a treatment, the blood vessels under the skin gradually change colour, and then eventually disappear (2-6 weeks).
Most clients are satisfied with the procedure, and with the removal of unsightly veins. Treated areas are noticeably clear, and for most, skin condition improves with successive treatments.
Immediately after laser therapy, it’s highly recommended to keep out of the sun. The healing process can be accelerated when wearing “support hose” – also known as compression socks. Pain is minimal after treatment, and any over-the-counter medication will suffice, if necessary. Post treatment, there is no downtime - normal activities and routine can resume immediately.
